We love our pets as much as we love ourselves. And with these emotions, we try to give them everything as much as possible so that they could be happy as always. This is because when they are happy and playful, we seem to be withdrawn from the stress and exhaustion that was provided by the hard days work. So we buy them trinkets, clothes and most often than not, toys. But let us be very careful in choosing our pet toys. There were several instances where a pet toy has proven to be harmful to our beloved pets.

This article will be talking about a certain pet toy which has proven to have harmed a few dogs over the past three years. This toy is actually a ball that comes on different sizes and has dotted protrusions for design and texture. The main goal of the toy is to keep pets from eating or chewing dirty things just picked up from the outdoors.

The toy does not mean any harm. It is just that there is a somewhat manufacturing defect on it so it became harmful unintentionally. The make of the ball is a solid, rough outer covering. There isn’t any air vent in this ball from inside so the air is vacuumed. When your pet nibbles on it, and punch holes in, the tendency is for the vacuumed air to suck any interference outside the newly punched hole. Normally, it is the lip or tongue of your pet that gets sucked in. The are only very few instances that the ball is already out of the pet’s handling after the suction happens.

Now, let us say that it was the tongue that was sucked in. The blood circulation surrounding the part of the tongue outside the ball stops. It then allows the part inside the ball to swell preventing it to be pulled out easily. You will have to rush the pet to a nearby animal hospital for help. The pet may be released with the tongue entrapment but the following troubles will be brutal for both the pet and its owner. Difficulty in eating, slower metabolism and signs of weakness and lack of interest in play is visible.

It is very fortunate that some of the victims of this toy have extended their hand into reaching for attention from the manufacturers of these toys. Some of them have already pulled out the toys from the market and continues to recall old stocks.

Used properly, a lot of household and store-bought pet toys can offer hours of amusement and work out for your pet. It's a good idea, however, to supervise your pet during play. If you become aware of something strange about your pet's actions or physical condition, call your veterinarian right away. If a toy or part of a toy is ingested, signs of problems may occur within minutes or hours and other times, you may not discern anything extraordinary for days. The obstacle may pass all the way through with no more signs than vomiting or diarrhea. Or it may cause obstruction, in which case your pet may be constipated or not want to eat. In any case, if you even suppose that your pet has swallowed an unknown object, call the veterinarian right away.
