Countries around the world face an issue which very few have given attention to. The taking in of animals as pets has been a common activity for so many years that owners have even reached as far as buying exotic pets to add to their collection. Many organizations have sought out to put a stop to these forms of animal cruelty, yet the smallest harm could stem from the normal family home and become a major environmental problem to all.
Pets as Living Creatures
Many animals that are brought into captivity, whether in zoos or in homes, and would suffer due to lack of maintenance, food and water, and proper shelters. So it is important to think well before deciding on keeping a pet as it will come with heavy responsibilities. Because pets are easy to obtain, people tend to become lax and forget their d as pet owners, leaving the animal to wait, suffer, and eventually die. Though animals are part of the natural cycle of nature, the idea that it is normal to neglect an animal speaks of its degradation as a living creature and therefore facing a problem quite as heavy as human issues on politics and the terrorism.
Evident Consequences
A family would want to raise a puppy, kitten, a bunch of turtles, some fish, snakes, and even potbellied pigs as pets, but they have no idea what an animal needs in order to live happy and healthy lives. A normal goldfish, for example, needs a large aquarium in order for it to swim around, compared to the normal cramped fish bowl, because of its body, which inhales water as the mouth opens and expands itself from within. Reptiles, especially turtles, are being bought and neglected, which can be very dangerous as they are known to be carriers of salmonella bacteria that are very harmful to people. Dogs and cats become strays each time their owners would abandon them or treat them badly and animal shelters would take them to be treated, revived, and be put up for adoption.
Before one decides on buying a pet, it is best to research and gain enough knowledge on how to care for a certain animal. Many animals are victims to bad pet care and the numbers are still increasing as more and more people are after animals for the value of their hides, shells, and the fact that they’re part of an expensive collection without a clue on how to keep these animals alive for the long term.
For A Lifetime Change
The end of animal cruelty is still unknown as there are cases of abuse still present in various countries. The Humane Society of the United States, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), and the Progressive Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) are just some of the many organizations fighting for this simple cause. To bring awareness to normal citizens of the cruelty of abandoning and neglecting their pets is just one of the goals these people are fighting constantly for in the past years and the years to come. The consequences, whether out of goodness or of neglect, depend solely upon the stewards of Mother Earth.
